Schaller & Weber

German butcher & grocer · est. 1937 · 1654 Second Ave at 86th

Opened by Ferdinand Schaller and Tony Weber to feed German Yorkville; still family-run from the same corner by Schaller's grandson. The wurst case is a neighborhood monument.

Heidelberg Restaurant

German restaurant · 1648 Second Ave

The last survivor of the dozens of German restaurants that once lined the neighborhood — pouring boots of beer next door to Schaller & Weber since the Café Vaterland days.

Papaya King

Hot dogs · est. 1932 · 206 E 86th St, Suite B

Evicted from its original 86th & Third corner for a condo tower after 91 years, back half a block away since 2024. The recipe survived the move.

Dorrian's Red Hand

Irish-American bar · est. 1960 · 1616 Second Ave at 84th

Family-run Yorkville fixture with checked tablecloths and generations of regulars.

Ryan's Daughter

Irish pub · est. 1979 · 350 E 85th St

Cash-only neighborhood pub on a corner that's held a bar since Prohibition.

San Matteo Pizza & Espresso Bar

Neapolitan pizza · 1559 Second Ave near 81st

Wood-fired Neapolitan pies and panuozzi; a Yorkville standby.

Saperavi

Georgian · 1712 Second Ave at 89th

Khachapuri and khinkali a few blocks up from the 86th St Q — one of the neighborhood's more interesting kitchens.

Cafe Maud

Café · brunch · 1640 Second Ave near 85th

All-day café from the team with the East Village original.

Vero Uptown

Italian · 1645 Third Ave at 92nd

Full-service Italian from the Barking Dog owners, open late by neighborhood standards.

Barking Dog

American · all-day · 1678 Third Ave

Long-running comfort-food room; the weekend brunch line is its own social scene.

Flex Mussels

Seafood · 1431 Third Ave at 81st

PEI mussels two dozen ways; relocated here after a fire took the original 82nd St room.

Orwashers Bakery

Bakery · est. 1916 · 308 E 78th St (one block below the border)

Founded by Hungarian immigrant Abraham Orwasher when this was the edge of Hungarian Yorkville. Technically a block outside our lines — we claim it anyway.
