Corrections

A correction from Tuesday's edition

Tuesday's paper and our events page put Sunday's Halloween Howl court near East 86th Street. The Carl Schurz Park Conservancy names only the basketball and hockey court off John Finley Walk, and we've dropped the cross street on both. We regret the error.

Yorkville, Remembered

Yorkville's Ruppert brewery covered four blocks, and gave way to apartment towers

Jacob Ruppert's brewery, founded in 1867, grew into a complex of dozens of brick buildings east of Third Avenue in the East 90s. It closed in 1965 and was demolished in 1969. Ruppert Yorkville Towers, a complex of roughly 1,200 apartments, was built on part of the site and built in the 1970s, and the towers still stand.

Sunday is still the big one: the Lexington Avenue festival, pumpkins in Carl Schurz Park and dogs in costume. Back tomorrow morning.
