Good morning. Bluestone Lane is bringing its all-day breakfast menu to Yorkville, a six-bedroom townhouse on East 87th Street is our listing of note, and public-school parents should know that Election Day is a remote school day this year, not a day off. Sunday is a busy one in Carl Schurz Park, with the Harvest Festival and the Halloween Howl; both are on our events page.

Yorkville, Remembered
Elaine's, the Second Avenue saloon where writers held court, closed after its owner's death
Elaine's, at 1703 Second Avenue near East 88th Street, opened in 1963. For more than four decades it was run by Elaine Kaufman, whose regulars included writers, actors and prominent New Yorkers. Kaufman died on Dec. 3, 2010, and the restaurant closed the next year. The space later reopened under new owners as The Writing Room, a name that nodded to Elaine's literary regulars; it closed in 2020.
