The Museum of the City of New York is hosting a family Halloween day on Oct. 31
Spooky City: Faces and Places of NYC starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, and is included with museum admission, according to the museum's listing. The day has art-making stations, storytelling, games, a scavenger hunt through the galleries and a costume contest, and it ends with a Monster Mash dance party from 2:30 to 3 p.m. The museum asks families to register in advance, with a separate sign-up for the costume contest. It is not a drop-off program, so children must stay with an adult. The museum is on Fifth Avenue, a short trip north of our patch. Via the Museum of the City of New York.

The city has its biggest list yet of car-free streets for Halloween
On Sept. 30, Mayor Mamdani and DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn announced this year's Trick-or-Streets: 160 Open Streets and plazas across the five boroughs will close to cars for Halloween celebrations in October, the most the program has ever had. The city posts the full list of blocks, dates and hours at nyc.gov/trickorstreets. We haven't confirmed any Yorkville blocks yet, so check the list before you plan a route. This weekend close to home: the Saturday market and a block party on East 88th
On Saturday, the 82nd Street Greenmarket runs from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on East 82nd Street between First and York avenues. GrowNYC lists it as a year-round market. On Sunday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Yorkville Community School PTA closes East 88th Street between First and York for its Fall Festival, which includes a costume parade, according to the school's event page. East 86th Street once had its own 'little pastry shop'
The Kleine Konditorei, German for 'little pastry shop,' stood at 234 East 86th Street and served coffee, tortes and German food. It was one of the businesses that made the street Yorkville's 'German Broadway,' along with Cafe Geiger, the Lorelei dance hall and Cafe Wienecke. Like the Elk Candy Company and the Bremen House import market, it closed as the strip's German character faded in the 1990s.
