Good morning. A longtime Upper East Side Italian spot says it's closing for good. Also today: Marathon Sunday is ten days out and runs up First Avenue, four November school dates for the fridge, and next weekend's Halloween plans close to home.

Nearby: Mezzaluna says it is closing for good this time
Upper East Site reports that Mezzaluna, the Italian trattoria at 1295 Third Avenue, south of our patch, has confirmed it is closing permanently. The news ends a year of back-and-forth: in March the restaurant denied a closing report and said on Instagram it would stay, and in June Upper East Site reported that its space had been listed for rent. We haven't seen a last day of service yet. Via Upper East Site and East Side Feed.

Four November dates for public school families
Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, is a remote school day for all public school students, not a day off. On Thursday, Nov. 5, elementary schools hold parent-teacher conferences and dismiss students three hours early. Schools are closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day, and middle schools and District 75 schools hold their conferences, with the same early dismissal, on Thursday, Nov. 12. All four dates are on the 2026-27 school calendar. Via NYC Public Schools.

Marathon Sunday is Nov. 1, and the race comes up First Avenue
The TCS New York City Marathon is on Sunday, Nov. 1. After the Queensboro Bridge at 59th Street, runners head north on First Avenue toward the Bronx, which takes the course straight through Yorkville. Spectator guides point to First Avenue on the Upper East Side as a popular place to cheer. The city hasn't posted this year's street closures and no-parking rules yet, so expect cross-town trips to be harder that day. We'll have the details when they're out. The brewery that stood on East 92nd Street
George Ehret opened his Hell Gate Brewery in 1866 on the block between East 92nd and 93rd Streets and Second and Third Avenues. By 1879 it was considered the largest brewery in the country, producing 180,152 barrels of beer a year. A year after Ehret opened, Jacob Ruppert built a rival brewery across the street. Both are long gone.
