Good morning. A quiet day after Election Day, so this is a short one. Elementary and Pre-K families: tomorrow is conference day, and school lets out three hours early. In the history corner: the East End Avenue schoolhouse Chapin moved into in 1928.

Tomorrow is elementary and Pre-K conference day, with a three-hour early dismissal

The NYC Public Schools calendar lists Thursday, Nov. 5, for afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences at elementary schools and Pre-K Centers, and students at those schools are dismissed three hours early. Conferences are remote this school year, though a school can arrange an in-person meeting on request. Your child's school sets the exact times. Middle schools follow on Nov. 12. Schools are closed next Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day, and the rest of the week is on our events page. Via NYC Public Schools.

Yorkville, Remembered

Chapin moved to East End Avenue and 84th Street in 1928

The Chapin School began in 1901 as Miss Chapin's School, at 12 West 47th Street. In the fall of 1928 it moved from East 57th Street into a new neo-Georgian building by the architects Delano & Aldrich, at East End Avenue and 84th Street. The school is still at 100 East End Avenue, and the building has since been raised with added floors.

The campaign posters come down, the leaves keep coming, and the neighborhood gets back to its regular arguments: who has the best bagel, and whether the Q is running.
