Yorkville With Kids — Playgrounds, Pools, Story Times & Classes
Yorkville — E 79th to 96th Street, Third Avenue to the East River — is quietly one of the best neighborhoods in Manhattan to raise kids: a riverfront park with a serious playground, an Olympic-pool sports campus, two library branches with weekly story times, and the state's top-ranked public elementary school. The parks and playgrounds
Carl Schurz Park is the default: 15 acres from E 84th to 90th between East End Avenue and the river, with a large playground, basketball courts, the promenade for scooter laps, and two dog runs for the sibling who only wants to watch dogs.

Ruppert Park
The pocket park at Second Avenue and 90th–91st; on Sundays in season, the greenmarket sets up alongside.

Swim, sports, and classes
Asphalt Green (555 E 90th St)
The kids' sports campus: Olympic-size pool with swim lessons from parent-and-infant on up, a full-size turf field, youth leagues, and a summer day camp for ages 4½–13.
92NY (92nd & Lexington)
Two avenues west of our box but a Yorkville institution by adoption — classes, camps, and a serious kids' program.
Free story times: the two libraries
Yorkville has two New York Public Library branches inside or on its edge, both with weekly children's programming. Schedules shift seasonally — check the branch calendar before you bundle everyone into the elevator.
Yorkville Library (222 E 79th St)
The very first Carnegie-funded NYPL branch, open since 1902 and a designated landmark — the children's room has the whole second floor.
Webster Library (1465 York Ave)
Baby lapsits, toddler story times, and a weekly arts-and-crafts hour for ages 4–12 — the calendar has current times.

The 2026 U.S. News rankings put P.S. 77 Lower Lab, on East 96th Street, at No. 1 among New York State's public elementary schools — with a second Upper East Side school also in the state's top ten.
